Vietnamese exports of sweet potato and cassava leaves bring in up to USD $6 million annually

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports in September 2022 reached 250 million USD, up 8.1% compared to September 2021. Generally, in the first nine months of this year, the export of this group of goods earned $2.45 billion, down 11.1% over the same period last year.

Particularly, the export of cassava leaves, bamboo leaves, sweet potatoes, banana leaves, etc. earned more than 6 million USD in just 8 months of 2022, up 4.4% over the same period.

In which, export of sweet potato leaves earned 0.52 million USD; cassava leaves 1.6 million USD; bamboo leaves, banana leaves, and bamboo leaves, respectively, reached 1.1 million USD, 0.84 million USD, and 0.35 million USD respectively; other leaves for export reached 1.66 million USD.

In August 2022, exports of cassava leaves and sweet potatoes recorded a sudden growth, of 101.3% and 115.4% respectively. Bamboo leaves, banana leaves, and other leaves all grew at double-digit rates, only the leaves recorded a 25% decrease over the same period.
